our Vision

our principle

The productions of the vulpecula collective should be permeated by feminist ideas, whereby the intersectional approach is central to us in order to take equal actions against different forms of discrimination.

our approach

In accordance with intersectional feminism, we want to use our work to speak out against different forms of discrimination; for example against sexism, homophobia and transphobia, racism, anti-Semitism, classism, ableism, lookism, ageism and speciesism.

The vulpecula collective is broadly positioned and should stand for gender equality and female empowerment as well as for vegan productions, sustainability and green producing.

In our projects, diversity should be practiced at all levels, such as gender, sexual orientation, origin, religion, social class, physical/mental/psychological impairments, physical appearance or age. This applies to the crew of our productions as well as to the cast. In the latter case in particular, we will work in the spirit of intersectionality to actively counteract stereotypes by assigning roles.

Another of our focuses will be on inclusive work, not only regarding the cast and crew of our projects, but also in regard to our audience: We want to make our productions available as versions for people with visual impairments and people with hearing impairments and make content on this website easily accessible and understandable in easy language for all interested parties.

Regarding various forms of discrimination, we also want to advocate for sensitive language and actively practice it.

The language theme will  play a major role in future productions by the vulpecula collective, as we pursue a multicultural approach to our work and therefore want to strive to integrate and preserve diverse languages and dialects.

Our approach may seem unconventional, but we do not allow ourselves to be limited by industry guidelines and traditions, do’s or don'ts. This is what the vulpecula collective is  about.

our direction

Our artistic direction is as diverse as our approach.

In our first experimental short film Questioning the Window, we focused on fears related to language and overcoming them, demonstrating this using the example of the Burgenland-Croatian ethnic group.

In regard to our collective, our future projects will be diverse. We don't want to commit ourselves to an art form, a specific genre or specific subject areas. Our artistic direction should be as comprehensive as the universe that we modeled in our collective. It is important to us to regularly deal with conflict-laden and important social issues. The entertainment factor must not and should not be neglected, but it should always be used appropriately and in a supportive manner for the chosen topics.

For suitable socio-political topics, partial proceeds that vary depending on the success of the productions should benefit selected organizations.

our work ethic

In our productions we rely on a professional but also family working atmosphere in which the joy and fun of artistic expression should not be neglected. We will support various artists as much as we can. As part of this, we want to respond individually to everyone involved, their talents and needs. Because different people bring different perspectives, we want to give space, enrich and expand at the same time. Productions by the vulpecula collective should be characterized by participatory work and flat hierarchies. Everyone involved can and should feel encouraged, regardless of their respective position in production, to participate in discussions, make suggestions and thereby actively influence the stories being told.

In addition to our work as a collective, well-founded research is essential for us, especially when it comes to conflict-laden socio-political issues for every production. Depending on the topic chosen, this should include psychological or historical, generally scientific advice from experts. Likewise, discussions with those directly affected by the topic in question and their active participation in shaping the stories told are also part of good project preparation.

Given the numerous cases of abuse in the art and culture sector, we also want to make our contribution to a safe working environment. Intimacy coordinators for intimate scenes will be just as much a part of our work as information about the Austrian contact point for assaults and abuse of power #we_do!

Everyone who shares our ethical principles of anti-discrimination is welcome in our collective. We want to actively strive for collaborations with suitable organizations and clubs and, in regard of applications, give preference to members of marginalized groups who are equally qualified.

Always, but especially in a working environment with people affected by discrimination, tolerance, openness, and awareness will be crucial for us, so that everyone gets enough time and space to simply be.

our goals

"Recognizing what we have in common in others, made possible by the connecting element of art."

The vulpecula collective sees art in the broadest sense as the power to change - for us, who create art, as well as for the audience. Whether the artistic works amuse us, affect us, excite us or make us think - the changing aspect is crucial.

Pursuing the Aristotelian idea of catharsis, we not only want to give the audience the opportunity to live out their own feelings vicariously through a character, but to also, in the best case scenario, question previous beliefs and opinions through our productions and thereby be encouraged to think critically and reflect.

The recipients should recognize themselves in our works and feel understood, but also learn to understand others even more:

"All people must have the opportunity to create, share & absorb stories, stories that reflect their culture & community, so that we all receive equal validation." (Evaristos Manifesto, p.245)

To make this possible, we want to help make diversity normal at all levels of artistical creations and thus be able to inspire all recipients with our works and give them artistic enjoyment.

our prospects

With our collective we are truly reaching for the stars. While we have already included some central points in our first short film project, we have not yet been able to implement many of our concerns for budgetary reasons, among other things.

What is clear, however, is that we want to act against all forms of discrimination with the same attention and determination. We will work intensively on this in our future projects.

We are aware that the three of us, who are at the beginning of the vulpecula collective, as white, middle-class cis women have a special responsibility towards our intersectional approach. Our participatory way of working with members of marginalized groups in all positions in production will be of crucial importance. Because we want to use our privileges, not as patrons, but as allies.

But we too are not perfect and make mistakes; are neither free from errors nor prejudices. But we are willing to listen and learn, continually educate ourselves and grow together. In this respect, we are always grateful for tips and constructive criticism from outside - especially from marginalized groups.

We hope that a new star has risen in the artistic sky with our collective - so that it may shine brightly!
